english pronounciation

>> Thursday, September 30, 2010

have u listened to Korean pop groups like Super Junior and wonder why their English pronounciation is (way) better than the Japanese and it sounds as if English is a part of their lives, unlike the Japanese?

Sara came up with her hunch based on Korean vowel and consonants - which i accidentally deleted her sms by mistake in answer to my question - n she has a very strong point there, it's from her hunch that i'll try to figure on my side

i'm not an expert in languages but hearing from Korean TV series n Kpop songs i'd realise Korean's more rounded aka "open mouth" and stronger, as compared to Japanese which is more of an almost "closed jaw" language and there's always this issue of "r" which the standard Japanese "r" is acutally pronounced as "l (for lion)"

any takes on this?

noctural leg cramps

lack of akali, lack of calcium, lack of acid in the body, etc. but has anyone ever added "worry/think too much even when sleeping/dreaming", "getting over-excited in one's dream", for causes noctural cramps too?

mental and emotional instability are causes of physical ailments too

why am i a late developer? why can't there be someone who's older than me to find connections to find me a job? why am i so ten years behind time no matter how hard i try? why am i plagued with the medical conditions that hinder me in searching for jobs? i am not handicapped but with all these medical problems i guess i am considered almost partial-handicap

i am struggling to rush three weeks before my school for N4 yet have to find job at the same time. It's frustrating to juggle between the rushing n interrupting the "rush time" in finding job which is time-consuming. i just wish i'm given this year off for N4 but the situation here isn't favourable

i'm really stressed up

i love the ending...it's been a long time my heart soars, feels so full and warm..doesn't matter if Yuki doesn't know about the past, Luka still swears by his life to protect and be with Yuki, and Yuki wants him "to come back" when all is over..i've never though i'd say this again: beautiful ending

Gundam Unicorn's next - i may be late for it but not too late..hope it's still there for me!

senile dementia

>> Tuesday, September 21, 2010

Singapore has finally touched on senile dementia but the media unfortunately has touched on the intermediate and severe senile dementia cases and keeps adding stress on caregivers

And..be realistic - how many of us have sewing machines, know how to use them at home and have the time to sew?! Both fathers and mothers need to work n by the time they get home they are dead tired. Can't anyone help solve the problem using our now everyday - realistic routine?

wat's not touched on was beginning/mild senile dementia. Healthcare organisations and media should do something to educate senior citizens - not caregivers - what senile dementia is about because caregivers - of course - they KNOW wat's senile dementia - caregivers are third-party observers after all

thus wat's missing is first-party information: media should let senior citizens know what is senile dementia, the common symptoms: forgetfulness (keep asking same questions again and again), throw tantrums, staying in the same spot for ten minutes playing with plastic bags, being negative, walking to and fro the same place in the same direction mumbling to themselves, imitating people's actions and speech, lying like a child, insisting that they are not senile when they are, etc

the media then immediately follows up: encourage senior citizens: know the symptoms, where to seek treatment and medical help, this will greatly ease the mental torment and suffering of the caregivers a lot, especially to the majority who cannot afford foreign caregivers, not only that, all caregivers - be it family members or foreign - mental and emotional state will be greatly balanced as it's not easy for working family members to deal with supervisor/manager/target stress, children stress, financial stress and elderly illness stress.

Make that island-wide: advertise on tv would be a good idea

It's not embarrassing, not shameful, not supertistious, not wrong, not not having fillai piety to educate the senior citizens about senile dementia. Senior citizens are human too and they have the right to know about their illness in their age: what is, where and how to treat senile dementia

there seems to be a small commotion in Singapore about speaking good English and accents

i beg to differ. No offense but unlike German has German culture in general, Japan has Japanese culture in general. Singapore doesn't really have cultural roots: all roots are passed down from migrants all over the world. Compared to those countries they have an identity, Singapore doesn't - it's Singlish, its accent and Singaporean broken English that creates a Singapore identity - when u tour around the world, a Singaporean can recognise another by the Singlish accent (besides the mountain-piling-food competition among one another) or the broken English that Singaporeans usually use. Call it ironic or not but it is comforting to find a fellow countrywo/man miles away from home

just like any language in any part of the world - rule of the thumb: you learn the standard language in school, u use slang "outside school". Even English citizens - the country of the system of which Singapore's 'N' 'O' 'A' levels are based on - have their own slangs! I'm not surprised that the students in England slang in schools

the thing is: generally the younger generation know when to use standard English and when not to - lah: we don't "Singlish" in formal occasions, eg first introductions, formal speeches, formal report, in exams etc.  They speak, write and learn standard English in schools and use Singlish and broken English during break-time in schools, after-school, at home, among fellow countrywo/men. It's thrilling to hear foreigners trying out their first "lah" X3

Singlish and broken English ironically play an important part in the younger generation's lives now - sadly - cos a huge percentage of them do not know how to speak dialects anymore - Singlish and broken English is the best way to let the young to stick and be aware of our multi-cultural roots. Dialect is our ethnic root culture and promotes racial tolerance and harmony, and even a good conversational topic! Long gone are the days like the 1960's Singapore where Malays n Indian can speak Mandarin, its dialects and vice-versa - now that's what i call progressive 60's!

thus please let us retain the only cultural identity that makes us uniquely Singaporean - Singlish, its accent and Singaporean-broken English

absolute disappointment

totally, when i saw the photos of the bulter cafe. Seriously, i feel that there's not much real talent scouting done. i'm not saying that they are not handsome. They are. But understand that the standard is VERY HIGH by nature.

Kaname would be a good example

Okay, if anyone wants to protest, i'll be a little spare-ing..at least DO SOMETHING MORE ON THEIR MAKE UP to make them cosplay mode!!!!! PLEASE ASK KANAME!!!!!!

finally..

X6 is mine!!!!! the wait n patience to find out how to transfer files, read its problems on the internet, figure it here n there is frustrating but in the end i figured what i want

but i still cannot download its Ovi suite and music player, always "downloading failed" and still hoping that it could transfer a whole folder of mp3 i had sorted on my own to a handphone, then within the handphone allow me to link these files instead of the end result of mixing all songs together

by the time i've figure out its file transfer and its other features - which took me half a day - i'm was too tried n frustrated  to categorise my playlist so did not include drama CD, soundtracks, ringtones...just songs and images into the phone

next time - a simple phone, a good mp3 player with software file transfers, a good camera...

guess in years to come..switch to Mac..i think having one uniformed OS makes my life easy..

sensitive

aaaaargh, it's always like that, always

it's very dangerous when people with sixth sense are together: it's either one or the other blows the whole entire field up

it's obvious somehow that maybe wagashi knows that i've applied for N4...i don't know but it really hit me when i was asked to form a sentence about it..sh*t, he knew?!!!

and even scarier...i felt a presence and made a very bad face...it was only when i realised wagashi might have walked past...it's not wagashi's fault! it's me...i feel so stooopid for not being able to control myself

of all the students i would be the one to apply N4 - one level above my own - without having a good foundation

but to my surprise two more of my classmates applied for the same level as i did! i duno...i think all of them are way better than i am, i feel the lowest

watever it is, i just try lah

ok i admit, i'm always slow in trends..

so now i'm listening to - yes, Super junior. Not that i'm an obsessed fan but it's fresh in my music genre. Their songs have strong beats and still-strong-voice even for some slow songs - doesn't put me to sleep. i was introduced to Rain quite some time ago, gonna try listening to his album too

just checked up on Cho (Jo) Jae Hyun on the internet - in English of course..i'm still swooning about his superb performance in New Heart and Bad Guy. Wish he would - if it's ever possible - team up with Julian Sands in a movie - both leading roles...woah - power...

wonder if Cho Jae Hyun would sing... X3!!!!!
